Getting around (and to) Manchester
Journey Planning :
Manchester Airport is well served by train, bus, and coach
services and has good road links to facilitate private hire,
taxi, and private vehicle access.
By Car :
There are numerous car hire operators in Manchester like
Simple auto rentals, Avis, budget car etc providing smooth
transportation around the city and outside the city as well.
The Airport as said earlier is around 10 miles from Manchester
city center. It has its own approach at junction 5 of the
M56. Even though the traffic on M56 usually runs smoothly,
driving down can be real pain hence one should start ahead
of time during rush hours as in the mornings and afternoon.
By Bus :
The airport has several bus services operated by various bus
service providers like Stagecoach Manchester, Trent and Arriva
North West, kyline buses etc, The buses run approximately
every half-hour to Manchester Airport from a variety of areas
including Altrincham, Benchill, Buxton, Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme,
Didsbury, Edgeley, Fallowfield, Gatley, Heald Green, Hulme,
Manchester University, Moss Side, Newall Green, Northenden,
Rusholme, Sale, Sharston, Southern Cemetry, Stockport, Withington,
West Didsbury, Woodhouse Park and Wythenshawe.
There are frequent buses from Manchester city center to the
airport too. Also a number of coaches go though Manchester
airport on their way to and from other towns and cities.
Buses running between Manchester city centre and the airport
have a journey time of approximately 55 minutes.
By Rail :
The airport is well served by Trains from Monday to Saturday,
with approximately 6 trains an hour in operation between the
Airport and Manchester Piccadilly station, from 05:40 to 23:30,
and every 1-hour during the night. However, Sundays being
a holiday, one will find reduced service operating on Sundays.
In addition, there are direct train services that link to
the Airport's railway station from most other major stations
in Northern England and Scotland including Blackpool, Bolton,
Edinburgh, Huddersfield, Leeds, Preston, Sheffield, and York.
By Taxi :
Traveling by Taxi is less expensive. The airport terminal
is filled with taxi ranks. Manchester City Council licenses
these taxis operating from the airport.
There are also plenty of black cab taxis that go to and from
the airport. For longer journeys from the airport one can
probably negotiate the taxi fare.
Major Car Hire Companies in Manchester UK are found at the
airport terminal providing quality Car hire services for all
budget. Get Manchester Car Hire Price information from the
information desk at the terminal.
