February – Carnival
This is celebration towards the end of February, which involves
a fiesta where groups of ‘chirigotas’ sing ironical
versed songs criticizing the famous politicians and other
prominent people, and claim for being nominated the best ‘chirigota’
ensemble of the year.
They select the carnival queen and the king Momo. The people
fervently join in the event in the streets. The fiesta culminates
in the ‘entierro del boquerón’ (funeral
of the anchovy), on the last day of Carnival.

Religious sculptures that represent Christ’s passion
in true art works are carried through the streets on decorated

in decorating the most beautiful cross with flowers, but is
not a holiday in Malaga.
Corpus Christi (June 18th).
This is a religious event celebrated with processions in the
center of Malaga, but is not a holiday.
Eve of San Juan (June 13th)
San Juan is the longest day of the year and is celebrated
with campfires and parties on the beach
Virgen Del Carmen (next Sunday to July 16th)
Virgen Del Carmen is the patron of the sea and previously
used to be a holiday in Malaga.
The Fair of Malaga:
On a Friday of the second half of August, Malaga
celebrates a fiesta to honor the towns take-over by the Catholic
King and Queen.
The ‘Feria’ (Fair), the most popular celebration
lasting 10 days involves all creed and age: children, young
and old participate. Visiting Malaga during this season even
makes the visitors feel ‘at home’. The showy flamenco
suits, the sound of "malaguenas" and "verdiales"
and Malaga’s cool wine flood the streets with bursting
merriment during all these vibrating days of the so-called
Fair of Southern Europe.
Virgen de la Victoria (September 8th)
There is a local holiday in the capital of Malaga, on this

Imaculada Concepcion (8th of December)
This is a national holiday celebrating the patron of Spain,
la Imaculada Concepcion.
