Monterey Bay Aquarium
Devoted to marine research and conservation, the Monterey Bay Aquarium
is known throughout the world for its interactive exhibits and ability
to present marine life on a truly grand scale. Discover life in
Monterey's bay without leaving dry land at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
Begin your tour in the Aquarium's matchless near-shore and coastal
exhibits that explore the habitat and ecosystem of creatures of
the tide-pools, then go on to the Outer Bay exhibit, highlighting
hammerhead sharks, schools of sardines, enormous sunfish, and green
sea turtles. Kids love the "Splash Zone,” featuring kid-sized
exhibits, South African penguins, and much more.
The most spectacular exhibit is Jellies, a splendid combination
of rare and delicate jellies and fine art. Don't miss feeding time
in the giant kelp forest exhibit or the sea otter tank!
Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco
This stunning, old red-orange bridge has become the significant
symbol of the Bay Area
The views are spectacular by day or night. Moreover, You can feel
the bridge swaying 27 feet from side to side.
From the returning home in "Star Trek" to Jimmy
Stewart rescuing Kim Novak in "Vertigo," the Golden Gate
has served as the backdrop for countless dramatic movie scenes.
From the first moment of your visit, it is not hard to see why.
Do not miss the dot-sized boats far below you, the spectacular cityscape
to the south, and the towering hills to the north or the occasional
daredevil cable climbers.
The bridge can be visited by car or tour bus. Once you are there,
walk or bicycle across to experience the fabulous city.
Pier 39
Its carnival-like atmosphere continues to mesmerize tourists with
sleight-of-hand and seafood. It is like stepping into several postcards
of the city by the bay. Visitors can spot Alcatraz, the Bay Bridge,
the Golden Gate Bridge, the Marin headlands, and the tip of the
Transamerica building from the center of the pier. If you want to
avoid the endless parade of tourist buses, any weekday afternoon
before or after summer will do. Between June and September, expect
maximum exposure to out-of-towners.
San Diego
Located at the extreme southern end of the coast near the Mexican
border, San Diego is known for its exceptionally pleasant climate
and warm tropical beaches. With less traffic and congestion than
its colossal neighbor, Los Angeles, this city offers a more relaxing
atmosphere. San Diego has one of the best zoological parks in the
world. It is located only a few miles from the Mexican border town
of Tijuana.
Death Valley
sited about 150 miles east of Los Angeles near the Nevada border,
Death Valley holds some of the most deserted scenery in the USA.
This narrow flat basin situated amid parched barren mountains often
experiences daytime temperatures above 140 degrees F and is nearly
devoid of life. Yet, the ascetic arid landscape with its multicolored
rock formations and its gleaming white salt flats is strangely beautiful.
A small area of open sand dunes gives the northern end of the valley
a classical desert look. The eroded walls and side canyons take
on multi-colored hues from exposed mineral deposits.
