Castillo de Santa Barbara
The Castillo de Santa Barbara sweeps in images of fairy tales

Isla de Tabarca
Located off the coast of Alicante, this small island, 17km
(10 mi) was once said to be a base for pirates, who used to
doubtless sit on the beach counting pieces of eight and play
with their peg-legs in the sand. However, today, the island
is more appealingly, a medieval fort, a pleasant little beach
and some fine seafood restaurants makes it an ultimate haunt.
You can have a perfect day trip, with underwater treats. Sailing
along the beach in a glass bottom boat from Alicante Port,
can be amazing having to see right through the marine reserves
off the island. You can also submerge in a small yellow submarine
that makes short trips from Tabarca's harbor and have a joyful
ride.
Museo de la Asegurada
This astounding building was once used as a prison and a munitions
store. Today it houses an impressive collection of 20th-century
art, with works by Gris, Miro, Picasso and Dali, as well as
lesser-known Spanish painters such as Chillida, Mompo and
Zobel.
Santa Pola
Located around 18 kilometers away from Alicante this fishing
port has always taken pride in having a well-deserved reputation.
With its excellent catch of shrimp and red mullets, Santa
Pola is a place of favorite for people who love fishing.
Even though fish markets out here produce the traditional
and noisy environment, people still love to visit Santa Pola.
The Santa Pola Cape, right next to the town, has a very wide
view, with the Tabarca Island very nearby. The Balcony of
the Mediterranean provides a panoramic view. The land of the
old fortress can be seen from the beaches of Levante (east)
and Poniente (west) as well.
The promenade, parallel to the beach of Levante, the urban
development of modern buildings and the large number of stores,
restaurants, terraces, ice cream parlors, discotheques and
all kinds of leisure places, constitute also an spectacle
that deserves the traveler's attention.
The City Hall
The City Hall presents a civil elaborate architectural work,
stunning design and impressive effort. The construction was
started in 1701. In the lower level, in the first step of
the interior staircase, there is a metallic disc that signals
ground cero and works as a reference point to measure the
height over the level of the sea of all the places in Spain.
This is possible thanks to the low variation of tides in Alicante.
The construction of the city hall ended in 1760.
Santa Faz Monastery
IT lies within the city limit, around 8 kms to the north of
the city, its construction finished in 1766. It has a renaissance
style, although its baroque facade as well as the chamber
of the shrine stands out. This chamber is said to contain
a piece of the cloth that supposedly wiped the moisture off
the face of Christ on his way to the Calvary.
